Monsters of Rock 1987

In late summer of 1987 Metallica played in Germany two concerts during the European Monsters of Rock Tour. These were two big concerts in Nürnberg (29 August) and Pforzheim (30 August). Tickets from both concerts I have in my collection for a long time. Both tickets have a very similar design and beyond the basic information about the show were different background color. The ticket from Nürnberg had bright green background and a ticket from Pforzheim bright pink. For a long time it was the only type of tickets from these concerts that appeared on the Internet. Earlier this year, I found a ticket from Pforzheim, who had a background in dark pink. It was something new but not yet sparked my interest. A few days ago I was able to buy a ticket from Nürnberg, who has a background in dark green. Both the two tickets from Pforzheim and from Nürnberg have the same information and differ only in the shade of the background color. I suspect that this may involve standing and seated tickets but none of the information on the ticket does not provide this. It is interesting that the two tickets with a darker shade of color have a low three-digit serial numbers. From my experience I know that tickets with low serial numbers (from the beginning of the series) were tickets given to promoter, bands quests etc. If anyone has any information about these tickets please send me message.

Poland for the first time

We just celebrated the 30th anniversary Metallica with four concerts at the Fillmore (Will be about this in the next topic) and I was highlighted today that exactly 25 years ago, Metallica came to Poland for the first time. This was also the first visit of a band in Eastern Europe. Metallica had come to Poland year before during the European Tour in 1986, but the tragic death of Cliff Burton has caused the postponement of the visit.

Metallica came to Poland as the main star of the festival “Metalmania” for two concerts held on 10 and 11 February at the Spodek Hall in Katowice. Support was Polish band KAT.

On both evenings, the hall was filled to the brim and the band watched each about 8,000 fans. Many more came to Katowice from whole Poland without tickets, hoping that somehow get into the Hall. Those of You who were in Metallica Headquarter probably saw in one of the toilets framed part of a newspaper article about Polish fans who are on their way to a concert vandalized train.

Holy grail for Polish fans - ticket from the very first show in Poland

Tickets for both shows are now very hard to find. They were printed on very thin paper and tickets which have survived to modern times are usually in poor condition. All tickets to the 80's and 90's were held in Spodek Hall had the same design. They showed Spodek Hall building. Different graphics colors depend on whether the ticket was seated or standing. Nowhere on the ticket does not have information about the artist. In this particular case, about the fact that it is a Metallica concert ticket shows the date of the concert. I do not have in my collection ticket from the second concert (February 11) so if anyone has a ticket and wants to make it part of my collection, please email me. Football vs LULU

Recently, my collection has grown by two interesting tickets. Both related to Metallica but not quite. Both rare and hard to find despite the fact that separates them 24 years from release. Let's go back in time nearly 25 years. Remember the Metallica summer tour through Europe - Monsters of Rock 1987?. After two large festival concerts in Nürnberg (29 August) and Pforzheim (30 August), Metallica's management has planned yet another show - August 31, in Frankfurt at Stadion am Riederwald. However, hard to find any information about this event. Why?. Because it's not about a concert in the tour but football match.

Bundesliga Match-Ticket

German organizers of the Monsters of Rock concerts invented football match between members of bands like Scorpions, Deep Purple, Metallica and Iron Maiden and local VIPs with the minister of culture to the forefront. From my information, it appears that Metallica eventually did not participate in the match but the fact is that it appears on the ticket. The ticket looks very cool and designer refers to the rest of the German concert tickets on this tour. Over the last 5 years I saw him once in sales and this is the copy that you see in the picture ... .. so you can say that is quite rare.

The second ticket is from the end of last year (11 November 2011) from a concert that took place at the Kӧln 1LIVE Radio Station. It was a concert of artists hiding under the name of LULU and promoting the album with the same title. For those who do not know, LULU is Lou Reed and Metallica project.

My name is LULU

I have not like 90 percent of people on earth the problem with the understanding that this is not Metallica's next album. This is album of LULU. It's more or less successful collaboration Lou Reed and Metallica. Unless the songs from the studio versions sounds at least strange and monotonous at live they sounds a lot better. But Metallica is a typical live band and it shows on stage. Whole concert I only watched on You Tube and ticket with wristband bought the day after the concert. This performance showed me the strong side of songs from LULU. Both Metallica and Lou have shown incredible commitment to the stage. It was evident that playing material from LULU is happy for the band. I do not share the opinion that the recording LULU is a step back in the band's career. I will say more, you have to have balls that after a good album (Death Magnetic) release such material, probably because no one believed it could succeed commercially. But Metallica has balls (which has already proved more than once) and can afford to pursue their artistic vision and collaboration, without regard for others. I wonder how many other bands would take such a challenge?.
